So, what is this course?
Self and Reflection is a five module CPD resource designed specifically for counsellors, coaches, and helping professionals who want to deepen their most important professional tool — their relationship with themselves.
This is not a passive reading experience. This course asks you to do the same brave, honest work you ask of your clients every day. To look inward. To understand where you came from. To examine the biases and patterns you carry into the room. To meet the child you once were. And to cast your gaze forward to the future self you are still in the process of becoming.
Who is this course for?
Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you are:
- A qualified or trainee counsellor or psychotherapist
- A coach or helping professional

- Someone who knows that the most important work they can do professionally starts with knowing themselves
- Or someone with a general interest
Course curriculum
What will you explore?
Module 1 — Understanding Self: The Theory
The foundational theory of self through the work of Carl Rogers. The organismic self, the ideal self, incongruence, and conditions of worth — and what they mean for you personally and professionally.
Module 2 — Where Did I Come From?
A guided journey back to the experiences, relationships, and messages that shaped who you became. Including the powerful timeline exercise and an honest exploration of why you chose this profession.
Module 3 — Looking Inward
An honest examination of the biases and prejudices we carry — towards others and towards ourselves. Imposter syndrome, countertransference, and how our past shows up in our practice whether we invite it or not.
Module 4 — The Inner Child
Perhaps the most powerful module in the course. A guided meeting with the child you once were — what they needed, whether those needs were met, and what they still have to say to you today. Including the inner child letter exercise.
Module 5 — The Future Self
Where everything comes together. An honest stocktake of where you are now, how far you have already come, and a vision of the future self you are consciously choosing to become. Including the final letter from your future self.
How does it work?
Each module is broken into short focused lessons followed by guided Pause and Reflect moments — invitations to stop, open your journal, and engage deeply with the material. The real learning happens in those moments.
Each module ends with a short quiz to consolidate your learning before moving on.
Work at your own pace. Come back whenever you are ready. Your progress is saved automatically.
CPD Hours
This course has been designed as a reflective practice resource suitable for use as Continuing Professional Development. Estimated total engagement time is approximately 6 hours across all five modules.
Participants are responsible for recording and claiming CPD hours in line with their own professional body's requirements. A personalised certificate of completion is issued automatically upon finishing the course.
What do you need?
Just a journal or notebook or anything where you can take notes. A phone, tablet or laptop would also be perfect for note taking. Choose which ever method suits you. Also of course a willingness to be honest with yourself. Everything else is provided.
About Your Facilitator
Keith Leonard Gumbrell is an integrative counsellor, author, and workshop facilitator. He has worked with individuals across a range of settings and brings warmth, honesty, and genuine lived experience to everything he creates.
This course grew from a belief that alongside theory and technique, one of the most valuable things a counsellor brings into the room is their own self awareness — their honesty, their willingness to keep growing, and their ongoing courageous relationship with themselves.
