This unit covers how African nations won independence, from Ghana in 1957 to Algeria's eight-year war against France. Students learn about Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, Julius Nyerere, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Leopold Sedar Senghor, and Patrice Lumumba, and what it actually cost to get free.
