Installment 13 of Finding the Names, Volume One — free, as every installment will be.

529 more entries transcribed name by name from the original ship manifests filed at New Orleans in 1822 (National Archives Microfilm M1895, Roll 2, images 241–360). Counting this installment, the project now holds 6,447 entries.

In these pages: the brig Aurilla, taken by pirates on the passage from Baltimore — her papers stolen and one of the 73 people aboard taken with them, her people's names reconstructed afterward under oath; Maria, struck off a Charleston manifest because she could not be got out of prison, her name scratched out of the record; the brig Brazillian's 142, and the inspector who found three of them "Tawney or of a light complexion instead of black"; George, four days old, on the brig Hyperion; two men entered as "African born"; three children shipped alone; and the one list where a clerk wrote the word "family" in the margin.

Transcribed by hand from the National Archives' own scans of the public records — no book or database copied. 159 pages, large print. Please share it freely: the hope is that someone finds their people in these pages.
