Canadian Flag Art Lesson, Canada Art Project for Elementary
This Canadian Flag Art Lesson has students create a Canadian-themed art piece with a beaver and a Canadian flag, using a variety of techniques with chalk pastel and pencil crayon. It is a great fit for Canadian holidays, social studies, or any time you want to celebrate Canada.
The lesson includes a visual and text step-by-step (each step on its own page with a description), a rubric for marking, and step-by-step drawing sheets for the beaver and the flag. An optional pre-drawn Canadian flag to cut out helps younger students, shortens the lesson, or supports students who need adaptations. All of my art lessons are original ideas by Ms Artastic.
WHAT TEACHERS ARE SAYING
★★★★★ “I didn't have a Canadian flag for my classroom, so I had the kids create their own flags and displayed them at the front of the classroom all year. A great visual when singing O Canada!!” Raelene S.

HOW TO USE IT
Look over the lesson plan for what to do and which materials you need, and gather them in advance. Read through the visual and text step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the student handouts, such as the drawing sheets and rubric.
Print the poster sample in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then show the PDF on a projector or under a document camera for students to follow, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description.
