Nothing can beat a warm, colorful fair-isle cowl on chilly evenings. “Cecily’s Cowl” is worked in the round, like a tube that’s seamed at the end in the form of a moebius. You can make it long and shorter (if you work blue chart box just once) or continue until you’re satisfied, or run out of yarn.

Finished measurements are easily adjustable.

Yarn
7 skeins Swans Island All American Sport (100% Rambouillet wool; 169m / 185y per 40g): approx. 846.5 m/ 925.5y total of sport weight yarn divided among 5 colors:
CC1: 2 skeins - 321m / 351y.
CC2: 1 skein - 123.5m / 135 y.
CC3: 2 skeins - 193m / 211 y.
CC4: 1 skein - 116m / 127 y.
CC5: 1 skein - 93 m / 101.5 y.
Sample was knit in the following colorways: Ash (CC1), Fern (CC2), Cloud (CC3), Flame (CC4) and Ochre (CC5).

The pattern has been designed for sport weight yarn, but you can make the cowl using fingering weight yarn, as long as you are satisfied with the feel of the fabric. The yardage may vary then a little.

Needles
3.75 mm / US #5 circular needle 40 cm / 16” long, or size needed for gauge.

Notions
crochet hook (the same size as needle) and scrap yarn for provisional cast on, marker, tapestry needle for weaving, spare knitting needle for grafting

Gauge
24 sts and 29 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in St st and Fair isle pattern worked in the round with needle 3.75 mm / US #5.
Take time to save time and check your gauge. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
