Environmental Awareness in the Workplace

The environmental cost on a floor is usually the one nobody has costed. Seven decisions on seeing it, making the case in terms people feel, and sizing the fix to what the floor can hold.

Long. Environmental change on a working floor dies in two ways. Nobody sees the real cost — the coolant running to the drain, the machines idling all night — or someone sees it and overcorrects into twelve sorted streams the shift cannot sustain. The skill is finding the actual cost and pitching the change in the terms the floor and the business both feel: money saved, risk removed, the team.

• Making the case for a change in terms both the floor and the business feel: cost, safety, reputation, and the team
• Taking the practical step — reduce, reuse, recycle — at a size the floor can actually hold, not past it
• Building the change into how the floor runs, set with the team and sized to what they can carry, not imposed from above
