April 2025 — The Gospel Issue

Sista Bosso Magazine, Issue 40

In April, we turned inward. The Gospel Issue was created as a space for truth telling, spiritual reflection, and honoring the sacred voice within every woman. We looked beyond religion and explored the deeper meaning of gospel — the good news we carry in our stories, our cultures, our art, and our resistance. This issue invited our readers to examine what it meant to speak honestly, to live truthfully, and to express the divine in everyday life.

Editor's Note

The issue opened with a reflective note from the editor, who reminded readers that our stories matter, especially when told in our own words. She spoke about the power of voice and how women across Africa have always used storytelling, song, and testimony to teach, to heal, and to resist. This month was a celebration of that power.

Speaking Truth To Power: Why Your Voice Matters

We explored the urgent need for women to speak up and challenge systems that silence them. This article reminded us that truth was not just political, it was personal. Using real life examples and moments from history, the piece encouraged every reader to remember that her voice carried weight, and her silence was never neutral.

Zethe: Vocalist, Songwriter, and Artist

We featured the vibrant and soulful Zethe, a South African artist known for her powerful vocals and fearless creativity. Through an intimate interview, she shared her journey in the music industry, her roots in gospel and jazz, and how she stayed spiritually grounded while navigating fame and visibility.

African Languages: As A Form Of Resistance

This article looked at how our indigenous languages were not only tools for communication, but also acts of resistance. By speaking isiZulu, Sesotho, Xitsonga, and other African languages, women reclaimed history, reshaped culture, and protected ancestral memory. We reflected on language as sacred, not to be erased.

Mavis Muchena: Certified Coach, Entrepreneur, Founder, Women Empowerment Activist

Mavis Muchena shared her story of building multiple businesses while staying deeply connected to her purpose. Her coaching work and commitment to uplifting African women through mentorship, financial education, and faith based leadership became a highlight of this issue. She embodied gospel in action.

Nthati: AI Policy Advisor, Digital Artist, Ethical Tech Advocate

We reintroduced readers to Nthati, a voice at the intersection of tech and ethics. Her work in algorithmic justice and digital storytelling reminded us that gospel could also be futuristic. She used art and artificial intelligence to amplify African voices and challenge digital colonialism.

Freedom of Speech In A Digital Age: The Fine Line Between Truth and Trend

This critical article tackled how social media blurred the boundaries between genuine expression and viral performance. We examined what freedom of speech looked like when truth became commodified and how women could protect their authentic voices in a performative world.

Puleng Mohlouoa: Founder of Nalane Skies, Director of Mo Molemi

We profiled Puleng Mohlouoa, a powerful creative and documentarian. Through her production company and the acclaimed Mo Molemi: The Farmer film, she told rural and agricultural stories with depth and beauty. Her commitment to authentic African storytelling reminded us that the land, too, carried gospel.

Spirituality Beyond Religion: The Sacred Self Outside The Pews

This piece invited women to explore spiritual paths outside of traditional institutions. It honored meditation, prayer, ancestry, and intuitive knowledge as valid ways of connecting to the divine. The sacred self was not confined to buildings. It lived in the body, in the soil, in memory.

Lifetime Achievement Recognition: Amina J. Mohammed

We honored Amina J. Mohammed for her global leadership, advocacy, and commitment to sustainable development. Her legacy of speaking for the voiceless, building platforms for justice, and centering African wisdom at the global table earned her this month’s lifetime recognition.

The Healing Power of Storytelling: How Telling Your Truth Sets You Free

This moving article explored the emotional and spiritual healing that came from telling your own story. It showed how women, through writing, speaking, and remembering, broke generational silence and began the long process of restoration. Telling the truth was a form of liberation.

Recipe: Slow Cooked Mealies with Butter

This comfort recipe brought warmth and nostalgia. We shared a traditional way of preparing mealies that reminded readers of home, family, and the kind of gospel passed down through grandmothers and kitchens.
