October Square Crochet Pattern: Single-Color Overlay Mosaic Motif with Size Customization

The October Square is a captivating crochet pattern featuring a repetitive, textured geometric design, prominently showcasing small trees at the center of each diamond. The unique texture is achieved through the mosaic overlay technique, which combines single crochet in the back loop only (sc in blo) with double crochet in the front loop only (dc in flo).

This granny square pattern is crafted in a single color to highlight the intricate texture, but you can easily adapt it to a more traditional mosaic style by switching colors with each row. This will result in rhombuses of one color, trees in another, and a striped background.

Additionally, I've provided instructions for resizing the square, allowing you to customize it to your desired dimensions.

Using DK weight yarn (size 3: light worsted), the finished granny square measures approximately 11 inches (27 centimeters). The sample shown in the pictures was made with Friends Cotton 8/6 yarn by Hobbii and a 4 mm (F-6) hook. I personally use mine as a dishcloth. 

If you choose to work with fingering or sport weight yarn, you can create more delicate items, such as a light scarf or cardigan. Lace yarn will yield an elegant prayer shawl, while using worsted yarn and increasing the square's size provides an easy way to make a cozy baby blanket.
