1. INTRODUCTION
One of the most common mistakes new digital entrepreneurs make is creating a product before proving that people actually want it.
They spend weeks writing an ebook, designing templates, recording videos, or building a course—and only afterward ask:
"Will anyone buy this?"
AI can make this problem worse because it makes creating products incredibly easy.
You can generate an entire ebook outline in minutes.
You can produce hundreds of prompts.
You can create worksheets, checklists, templates, and lessons rapidly.
But easy to create doesn't mean valuable to buy.
The smarter approach is to identify the problem first and use AI to accelerate the solution.
2. CORE CONCEPT
Think of a digital product as a shortcut.
People aren't really buying a PDF, template, course, or prompt library.
They're buying a faster, easier, clearer, or more organized path toward a desired result.
A solopreneur doesn't necessarily want "50 AI prompts."
They may want:
"A repeatable system for generating a month's worth of content in two hours."
The prompts are simply part of the mechanism.
This distinction is critical.
Instead of asking:
"What digital product should I make?"
Ask:
"What frustrating problem could I help someone solve more efficiently?"
Then ask:
"What product format would make that solution easiest to use?"
That might be:
- A template
- A checklist
- A swipe file
- A prompt system
- A spreadsheet
- A resource directory
- A workflow
- A mini-course
- A complete course
- A membership
- A bundle of related assets
The format should follow the problem.
For example, if the problem is "I don't know what to post," a content calendar may be useful.
If the problem is "I don't know how to create the posts efficiently," an AI workflow and prompt system may be more appropriate.
If the problem is "I don't understand how to build an entire content machine," a structured course may make more sense.
Your newsletter gives you an enormous advantage here.
Every reply, question, click, comment, and recurring topic can provide clues about what your audience wants.
You don't have to guess.
You can listen for problems.
AI can help analyze that information.
You can feed it anonymized survey responses, customer questions, comments, and your own notes and ask it to identify recurring themes.
The result can become a product-development pipeline.
3. THE WHY
The best digital products often emerge from problems you've already seen repeatedly.
That's why audience building and product creation should not be separate activities.
Your newsletter isn't merely a marketing channel.
It's also a research laboratory.
Every issue gives you an opportunity to observe what resonates.
If readers repeatedly ask how to automate a particular workflow, that may indicate a product opportunity.
If people want your template, turn the template into a more complete system.
If a particular newsletter consistently generates replies, investigate what deeper problem sits underneath it.
This creates a valuable loop:
Teach → observe → listen → identify demand → build → sell → learn → improve.
AI can accelerate every stage, but the audience provides the most important signal:
What they actually need.
4. STEP BY STEP
- Collect audience problems.
- Review replies, comments, questions, conversations, reviews, and your own observations to identify recurring frustrations.
- Group similar problems.
- Use AI to categorize those observations into themes so patterns become easier to recognize.
- Choose one specific outcome.
- Define exactly what the customer should be able to accomplish after using your product.
- Select the simplest useful format.
- Choose a template, guide, checklist, workflow, prompt system, or other format that can deliver the desired outcome efficiently.
- Create a minimum useful version.
- Build the smallest version that genuinely solves the problem rather than adding features simply because AI makes them easy to produce.
- Test the concept.
- Discuss the problem with your audience, offer a preview, collect feedback, or test interest before investing heavily in development.
- Build from evidence.
- Use the feedback you collect to improve the product, clarify the promise, remove unnecessary material, and create a stronger final asset.
YOUR PRODUCT VALIDATION QUESTION
Before creating any digital product, complete this sentence:
"My customer currently struggles with ________. My product helps them achieve ________ without having to ________."
For example:
"My customer struggles to consistently create useful content. My product helps them build a month's worth of content using AI without having to start from a blank page every day."
That's much stronger than:
"I'm going to sell an AI prompt ebook."
The first describes a customer outcome.
The second describes a container.
Customers buy outcomes.
Your job is to use AI to make delivering those outcomes faster, easier, and more scalable.
