Finding the Names, Vol. One, Installment 23 — New Orleans Inward Manifests, 1824–1825
Installment 23 of Finding the Names, Volume One — 416 more entries transcribed name by name from the original New Orleans ship manifests at the National Archives (Microfilm M1895, Roll 3, images 601–720). 145 pages, large print. FREE — please share it so families can find their people.
A French sworn declaration asks the collector for papers to bring Eliza and her little son Jacques home — she had left New Orleans under a governor's passport and was in France, wishing to return by the first ship from Bordeaux. These pages also hold Kelley, missing from the brig Orbit, and Henry Williams, a boy aboard who was on no list; Dennis, three months old, who died on the passage; Betsy, 39, sent to New Orleans to be hired out under a probate certificate preserving her 1812 purchase; and the James Monroe's two Peters — the inspector's exception names one, and the papers never say which.
Counting this installment, the Finding the Names project has recovered 12,416 entries from the New Orleans manifests, every one free. The companion guide and the Complete Set (Installments 1–23 in one download) are also free in this store.
