Long Division Using Partial Products
Dividing using partial quotients” means breaking a large division problem into smaller, easier parts using place value and friendly numbers. Instead of solving the whole problem at one time, students divide in pieces — hundreds, tens, and ones — and then add the partial quotients together to find the final answer.
Students subtract each part as they go until the remainder is 0 (or smaller than the divisor). This strategy helps students understand division conceptually by using place value, repeated subtraction, and multiplication facts together.
