What separates a tradesperson from somebody with the same skills

Two technicians can have the same skills. One tells the client the projector they chose is too dim for the room; the other installs it and lets the client find out at the launch. One stops a lift when the sling looks wrong; the other lets it go because the show is late. Only one of them gets called back, and only one of them would be welcome in any professional body's code of conduct.
