Christmas Present Coaster

Wrap up some festive cheer with the Christmas Present Coaster! 🎄

This little overlay mosaic design was inspired by the presents on my Dashing Dachshunds Christmas blanket. They were my favourite part, and I kept thinking I’d happily make just those. Not everyone fancies a blanket-sized project at Christmas (fair enough 😅), so here’s a smaller, quicker way to enjoy the same festive idea.

At its heart is a central present with a bow. Stop there for a cosy coaster, or add the envelope border for a mug rug or hot pad.

It looks trickier than it is. If overlay mosaic is new to you, this is a gentle place to start. It’s a small project, it works up in two colours, and it’s very kind to your scrap bag. Make one to try the technique, or a whole stack tied with ribbon for gifts.

Finished size:

• Apx. 13 by 14cm (5.25 by 5.5 inches), before a border is added.

Skill level: Adventurous beginner.

You will need:

• DK weight yarn:
• Colour A (background) - apx. 16m/18 yds
• Colour B (motif) - apx. 18m/19 yds
• This is based on a single sided motif, without border.
• 4mm/G-6 crochet hook
• Scissors and a tapestry needle
