Description:

This Master Prompt would focus on establishing defensible evidence that a product, model, framework, module, system, intervention, guideline, instrument, or other artifact actually needs to be developed. It would guide researchers in defining the practical problem, identifying affected stakeholders, analysing the existing context, examining current practices and solutions, identifying performance or capability gaps, and determining unmet user and organisational needs.

A major emphasis would be placed on preventing researchers from beginning development solely from personal assumptions about what users require. Needs should instead be established through appropriate evidence such as systematic or targeted literature review, interviews, focus groups, surveys, observations, document analysis, existing-system analysis, stakeholder consultation, or combinations of methods. Researchers would distinguish the research problem, user needs, stakeholder expectations, contextual constraints, and eventual design requirements. The literature includes developmental studies combining stakeholder interviews and systematic literature review to conduct triangulated needs assessments before development.
