Do you recall playing with Sycamore Seeds? Those little two winged sprouts that when dropped, flutter around like helicopter blades. I remember playing with these seeds, when I was younger, standing on the balcony and letting them go, watching them spin to the ground, and seeing how they twirled around in the wind.

This shawl’s main feature is the lace stitch border, which resembles the Sycamore seed. I wanted to create something light and airy that also captures the feeling of light and airiness. This shawl is worked bottom-up, with the lace stitch worked straight, with simple short-row shaping to from the body. With an open-lace stitch pattern, and a fringe to flow in the wind, you can spin around in this shawl and marvel at how it unravels in the air.

Needle: US size 6 (4.0mm), 32” (81cm) circular needle is recommended in order to accommodate the large number of stitches.
Yarns Used: Lydia Yarn Bliss (Fingering weight; 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 400 yards/100grams). 1 skein in Seattle Sky, and 1 skein in Armory.
Yardage: Yarn 1: 350-400 yards; Yarn 2: 350-400 yards.
Gauge: Gauge is not crucial to this project, but varying gauges will affect final measurements and yardage used.
Other Notions: Stitch markers (at least 24), darning
needle.
Final Measurements: Measurements taken after blocking.
