Pass-Through Paradox

Two Denver-area (Colorado, USA) university employees work in separate but adjacent storerooms. However, there is a connection between these two basement storage rooms: a vent high up on the wall. What could be misconstrued? What could ever go wrong? Puff breaks heighten the suspicions.
