Textured Violin

I sampled myself playing long violin drones, so lightly that they had a wonderful light and scratchy texture. I took those samples and turned them into a collection of cinematic pads that I could layer into my thriller/horror music.

I have had the Violin itself since about 2004 when I purchased it on eBay for about £40 (seemed like a lot to me at the time). It is a bit of a Frankenstein's monster with the scroll, neck and body being taken from other violins. It is a shrill and bright-sounding instrument that I have grown to love.

The pads themselves are designed to create a warmer more cinematic atmosphere with a bit of filth/texture to make it more interesting. I have used this instrument extensively in the third acts of my neo-classical Violin tracks.
