I1955 Ganj Dareh Historical 23andme format
By the mid-16th century, Ganj Dareh, originally famous as one of the earliest Neolithic farming villages in the Zagros Mountains, was part of the Safavid Empire. The Safavid dynasty, founded by Shah Ismail the 1st and ruled at this time by Shah Tahmasp the 1st , was a major Persianate power rivaling the Ottoman Empire to the west and the Mughal Empire to the east.
During this time period, Persian was the lingua franca of administration and literature, though Kurdish or Luri dialects dominated locally around Ganj Dareh.
Architecture was characterized by mudbrick homes and rural shrines, with urban centers showing intricate Safavid tilework and gardens. Sufi mysticism and Shi’a religious devotion were prominent spiritual expressions.
For this video, I’ve prepared a 16th century genome from Ganj Dareh, Iran.
