Creative Writing Workbook

A step-by-step short story planning workbook that guides kids from idea all the way to drafting. Thirty pages of lessons designed to guide students through the full process of writing a short story. Created with 3rd through 6th grade students in mind, but it can easily be modified for younger or older writers. Each page is a lesson meant to be done with a teacher or parent. Each lesson includes instruction, practice, and then time to implement.

The order of the skills moves writers smoothly from the big idea, to character, to story world, to story structure, and finally to writing craft.

The lessons follow this sequence:

Theme → Characterization → Setting → Plot → Hero’s Journey → Point of View → Dialogue → Mood
