Agent Text Language is a JSON-driven JavaScript runtime for text-based worlds populated by autonomous agents, collectables, consumables, and location-bound interactions. This portable zip file release is specifically intended for users who are not comfortable using npm commands directly to set up their projects. It comes fully packed with double-clickable helper scripts, a working example world, and offline documentation to help you start creating and experimenting right away.

Getting Started

Prerequisites: Ensure you have Node.js version 18 or newer installed on your Mac, Windows, or Linux computer.

Run the Demo: Double-click the run-demo.bat script (if you are on Windows) or the run-demo.command script (if you are on macOS) to instantly launch the included example world and see how the simulation works.

Create Your World: Read through the included docs/syntax-reference.md guide, make a copy of the examples/demo-world.json file, and begin customizing your own locations, items, agents, and recipes.

Launch Your Custom World: Double-click the run-world.bat or run-world.command script, which will conveniently open a file picker allowing you to select and run your new JSON world file.
