The Stone Wall | A Hearthside Study

An 11-page individual Bible study about wise boundaries, releasing hostility, and the peace Christ creates.

The wall divided their land.

It did not stop them from helping one another.

The Stone Wall begins with an old fieldstone wall across the road from the farm and a family story passed down from the Civil War. Though the neighboring farms stood on opposing sides of the conflict, the families sheltered one another’s livestock and goods when soldiers came through. From that practical care comes a deeper question—where might a necessary boundary have become a barrier to grace?

Rooted in Ephesians 2:13–19 and Romans 12:18, this Hearthside Study considers Christ Himself as our peace and the call to live peaceably wherever it is possible and within our responsibility. It explores the difference between maintaining wise boundaries and allowing hostility to govern our hearts, the practical care that may remain possible across a division, and the outcomes we must entrust to God.

Inside the 11-page designed PDF, you’ll find the original The Stone Wall essay, Scripture readings and context, eight guided study and reflection questions, personal reflection prompts, a closing prayer and application, and space for notes. The study can be worked through quietly on your own or shared informally with others around a table.
