A Soft Look - documentary film on life as an artist
A Soft Look is an award-winning short documentary by Canadian filmmaker Perry Mark Stratychuk, presented by Menduo House. Filmed on 16mm movie film in 1983 and originally broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), this intimate portrait explores the question: Is everything art?
Featuring Winnipeg painter Andrew Valko and his model/partner Julia Lam, the film offers a quiet, contemplative glimpse into the creative process, artistic partnership, and the emotional rhythms of a life devoted to visual expression. Shot in classic 4:3 format, the film captures the texture and nuance of studio life with poetic restraint.
The original ambient electronic soundtrack, inspired by the work of Brian Eno and Ryuchi Sakamoto was composed and performed by Stratychuk himself, and was released as the vinyl EP Body Waves, now available for streaming and download on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and other platforms.
Perfect for fans of artist documentaries, Canadian film history, and experimental sound and image, A Soft Look is now available to stream for the first time, an evocative meditation on art, intimacy, and the quiet beauty of observation.
