Makani and Flynn are troubled by the strange disappearance of his sister and her family. 

With the help of Charlie, and Makani's friend, Annie, they go off in search of his missing relatives. 

Makani and Flynn attempt to escape the deepening shadows by travelling to the Big Island, where they learn that her connection to the shadowy creatures, straight out of folklore, may be more than mere coincidence.
