The Welding Pricing Calculator Pack
Eight calculators for pricing welding per hour, per inch, per mobile visit and per small job from your own year, your own consumables and your own speed, not from anyone's price list.
Sheet 1 turns the income you want, your costs, cancels, driving and admin into an hourly floor: $73.30 per paid hour in the illustrative example. Sheet 2 costs wire, gas, tips and discs per arc hour and per shop hour from your own usage. Sheet 3 prices an inch of weld from your inches per arc hour and arc-on share, sheet 4 prices a mobile call-out with drive time, rig cost and a minimum, and sheet 5 sets a small-job minimum. Sheet 6 marks up the steel bought for a job with the offcut charged in, sheet 7 builds a fabrication quote from cut, fit, weld and finish hours, and sheet 8 checks whether a finished job paid your floor.
Every figure is an example for you to overwrite. The pack prices time and materials only: it gives no structural, code, certification or safety advice, and these are estimates, not tax or legal advice. Every formula was recalculated and checked against an independent implementation before this shipped.
What is in it
8 calculators, one per sheet. Overwrite the blue cells with your own numbers and everything else follows — nothing is locked, there are no macros, and it opens in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets.
- Shop hourly floor — What must a paid shop hour earn to pay you and the business?
- Consumables per hour — What do wire, gas, tips and discs cost per arc hour and per shop hour, from your own usage?
- Price per inch of weld — What should an inch of weld cost the customer, from your own inches per arc hour?
- Mobile call-out — What should a mobile welding visit charge for the drive, the rig and the time on site?
- Small-job minimum — What is the least a small welding job should be, once setup and talk time are paid?
- Steel and material markup — What does the steel bought for this job cost the customer, offcut and pickup included?
- Fabrication quote — What should a fabrication job be quoted at from cut, fit, weld and finish hours?
- Did this job pay — Once the job is done, did it pay your floor?
Every formula was checked
This pack contains 63 formulas. Before it was published, every one of them was recalculated by a spreadsheet engine and compared against an independent implementation of the same arithmetic written in Python. All 63 agreed to within a cent, and the workbook carries a Verification sheet saying so.
That is an unusual thing to be able to claim about a spreadsheet, and it is the main reason to buy this one rather than download a free template. A formula that looks right and is wrong is worse than no formula at all, because you will act on it.
What each calculator assumes
There is a sheet listing this, because a calculator that hides its assumptions is just a number generator:
- Every working week looks the same. A cancelled slot is time you are at work and unpaid. Driving and admin are hours you enter, so the floor already pays for them. The tax set-aside is a share you enter, not a computed tax.
- Usage is your own measured figure for the process you run and is the same every arc-on hour. Gas is priced from one cylinder refill. Electricity and machine upkeep sit in the business costs on sheet 1.
- Every inch on the job runs at the inches per hour you entered; change it for each joint, size and position. Fit-up and grinding sit in the share of the hour the arc is off. Material is priced on sheet 6.
- Drive time is paid at your floor because it is time you are working. Rig cost per hour is your own figure for running the welder, generator and truck setup on site. The minimum is your policy.
- Setup, cleanup and customer time are the same on every small job. The minimum is rounded up to your own step. The sheet prices the time; whether a repair is sound is your call and outside this pack.
- Steel is bought in whole sticks and the leftover is charged to the job that caused it. The cut list is your own; this sheet does not choose a size, grade or section, it only prices what you list.
- Hours are your own estimate for each stage and every hour carries the same consumables figure from sheet 2. Design, engineering and any inspection the work may need are outside this pack; price them separately if you provide them.
- Business costs and unpaid hours are already inside the floor from sheet 1, so this sheet subtracts only the costs that came with the job. Offcut kept from the job counts as material bought for it.
What this is not
Not financial, tax or legal advice, and not a recommendation to buy, sell, borrow or sign anything. These are calculators: they show what a choice costs, not which choice is right for you. Where a published rate or threshold is used it is the one current when the pack was built — those change, the arithmetic does not.
Honest about the format
One .xlsx workbook, 8 calculator sheets plus Start Here, Assumptions and Verification. Not a PDF, not a physical product, not a Notion template. Available immediately after purchase; nothing ships.
