A child who can count to a hundred cannot always count seven buttons. Counting the rhyme and counting the objects are different skills, and Year 1 is where the difference starts to matter.

Year 1 is the year school stops being mostly play. Decode words, form letters on a line, add within twenty, and sit a phonics check in June. Most children manage it. Almost all of their parents want to know, at some point that year, whether what is happening at the kitchen table is the right thing.

This is what I would tell you if you asked me at the school gate, in four subjects, with the practice sheets already made.

What you get

  • Maths — 7 videos, 13 lesson cards, and a Reception readiness checklist
  • Reading — 3 videos, 5 lesson cards
  • Writing — 4 videos, 5 lesson cards, 8 handwriting sheets
  • Grammar, punctuation and spelling — 4 videos, 6 lesson cards
  • Four companion books, every slide deck, and an A3 course map per subject
  • Printables for the whole year: hundred square, number lines, tens frames, place value mats, times tables, handwriting in print and cursive, phonics phases 2 to 5, phoneme, digraph and trigraph charts, the first 300 high frequency words, Year 1 common exception words, spelling words and spelling patterns

How to work it

Start with the Reception checklist in the Maths folder. Then run two subjects at a time, two cards a week each, and read together for fifteen minutes every day. Four subjects at once is how good intentions die in October.

Who it is for

Parents of children in Year 1, or going into Year 1, who want to know what is expected and how to help. Tutors and childminders can use it as a ready-made scheme.

Saving

£69 for all four subjects, against £91 bought separately.

This product is delivered as four downloads, one per subject.
