About The Issue: August 2025 – The Beauty Issue

August is our favourite time to celebrate the art, the expression and the revolution that is beauty. In this issue, we’re stripping down the gloss and getting into the real. Because beauty is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It’s personal. It’s political. It’s freedom.

Our Editor’s Note kicks off the issue with a raw reflection on how beauty shows up in the everyday. It’s not always contour and concealer. Sometimes it’s just clean skin, shea butter and facing the world head on. Beauty is a choice and a journey and we’re here to walk that journey with our sistas.

In Beauty Without Boundaries, we explore the ever evolving love affair we have with our hair and our faces. From natural coils to braided crowns and bantu knots, we’re embracing the new wave of African beauty with no apology. These are not just trends, they are cultural affirmations. Whether you’re keeping it fresh faced or going full beat, this feature is a celebration of expression beyond the binary. Beauty is political, ancestral, and deeply personal.

We shine the light on Koketso Mojapelo, a multi layered sista who's redefining what it means to be a modern woman. She’s a content creator, a public relations strategist, a YouTuber, and a police officer. Yes, all of that in one body. Koketso talks balance, boundaries and the fire that keeps her pushing in industries that rarely expect to see a Black woman excel on her own terms. She’s walking proof that you can be a boss in the boardroom and still serve face on your channel.

Sista Bosso Magazine is proud to not only sponsor but also creatively direct the upcoming North West Fashion Week, taking place in October 2025. Our very own Kabelo Vanessa Mablomo leads as the Creative and Production Director of this historic five day celebration. Expect runway shows, style labs, beauty booths and unfiltered African excellence. This is where fashion meets beauty, where creativity meets business, and where our voices take the front row. It’s not just an event, it’s a movement.

Breakouts? Hyperpigmentation? Hormonal flare ups? We got you. In Acne Is Not The End of The World, we’re sharing real tried and tested tips that don’t cost your rent money. We talk to dermatologists, skin influencers and everyday girls who’ve figured out what works. Because flawless skin is a scam. We’re not chasing perfection. We’re building real skin confidence.

North West Fashion Week is about more than runway slays. It’s a platform that’s making room for authentic African beauty and fashion stories. This year’s theme speaks to beauty and diversity. From inclusive casting to bold styling choices and powerful conversations, October 2025 will mark a new chapter in the story of South African fashion. And Sista Bosso will be there to document every beautiful second.

In this issue, we honour Nancy Kgalapa, the powerhouse behind North West Fashion Week. She’s a teacher, a fashion designer and a woman who built a stage for African designers to shine. Nancy is not just running the show. She’s rewriting the rules.

We deep dive into Make Up Artistry, not just for the sake of beauty, but to understand the skill behind it. Whether you’re a beginner trying to slay a brow or a pro makeup artist refining your craft, this feature shares techniques that highlight your natural features rather than hide them. Because makeup should feel like self love, not war paint.

Boitumelo Wilson steps into our pages as the model, pageant queen, education activist and creative entrepreneur who’s changing the game for the next generation. She’s beauty and brains with a purpose that radiates beyond the surface. Her words are a masterclass in being multifaceted and unapologetically visible.

We believe skincare is not just about products. It’s a ritual. In Skin Care: Building a Routine for Healthy, Glowing Skin, we’re going beyond influencer hype to deliver routines that work with your budget, your climate and your skin type. Think of it as a love letter to your face.

This month we celebrate the legacy of Connie Ferguson. Her contribution to entertainment, beauty and wellness is unmatched. She represents decades of discipline, grace and timeless style. This Lifetime Achievement Recognition is a bow from one generation to the next.

Confidence doesn’t come from compliments. It comes from how you see yourself. Self Love is a bold reminder that beauty begins with you. From affirmations to boundaries and body neutrality, this feature is for every sista finding her way back to herself.

Feli Nandi graces our first cover with elegance and soul. The award winning Afro Jazz and Afro Soul singer and songwriter, also an entrepreneur, is the embodiment of African excellence. Her presence reminds us that being beautiful also means being brave enough to be yourself.

Because we’re foodies and fabulous, we’re sharing a fresh recipe for your glow up. A Spinach and Fruit Salad with Avocado Citrus Dressing that’s as rich in nutrients as it is in flavour. You’re welcome.

And because beauty is changing, Sustainability Is Redefining Beauty Choices in South Africa. We explore how local brands and conscious consumers are shifting the narrative. Eco beauty, ethical practices and buying local are not trends, they’re the new normal. And we’re here for it.

Finally, our second cover is a full on tribute to the power of Women’s Month. Wathint’Abafazi, Wathint’Imbokoto: The Beauty That Doesn’t Back Down. This cover is for the mothers, the rebels, the lovers and the healers. For the women who keep showing up, loud and proud.
