Career Connected Learning: Career Readiness for Career and Technical Education (CTE) + Work-Based Learning (WBL) helps students answer that question by connecting classroom learning, hands-on training, workplace experiences, and career exploration to the skills employers actually need.

Designed to be active rather than lecture-driven, this student workbook guides learners through a practical progression:

Prepare → Explore → Experience → Reflect → Demonstrate

Students begin by identifying their interests, strengths, and career goals. They use Holland/RIASEC career interests and occupational research to explore possible pathways and compare what career resources say about an occupation with what they observe in the real world.

From there, students learn to recognize and document employability skills such as communication, reliability, teamwork, initiative, problem solving, adaptability, and professionalism. Work-Based Learning experiences become more than hours completed—they become evidence of what a student has learned and can do.

Students then practice turning that evidence into career tools. Activities help them identify accomplishments, create stronger resume bullets, build a resume, develop a professional GNAP introduction (Greeting, Name, Affiliation, Purpose), prepare STARLS interview stories, and practice communicating their experience to employers.

A dedicated AI + Career Readiness section also teaches students how to use artificial intelligence as a workplace and career-development tool while maintaining accuracy, privacy, authenticity, and personal responsibility.

The workbook concludes by helping students compare possible next steps—including direct employment, apprenticeships, employer training, industry credentials, two- and four-year education, military/service pathways, and entrepreneurship—and create an actionable career plan.

Rather than asking every student the same question—"Where are you going to college?"—Career Connected Learning asks:

What work are you moving toward, what does that work require, and what is your next useful step?

Ideal for Career and Technical Education programs, Work-Based Learning programs, career-readiness courses, high school transition programs, workforce development programs, and educators helping students connect learning to employment.
