Workshop 06 Things That Go Beep in the Night

This is the video recording of the Adept Play workshop "Things That Go Beep in the Night," held July 19, 2026, including the associated slides and activity materials. The recording is divided into four parts, each about 45 minutes long.

This workshop’s topic is playing characters, coded in terms of robots, androids, cyborgs, and mech pilots. It is focused on what you do with a character, as opposed to complying with genre or hobby expectations, but also working within the confines of what is known. It is organized by the different decision-points and structural aspects common to all role-playing situations. The science fiction angle allows us to focus on procedures and decisions within well-known symbolic types of characters’ identities.
