'The Lake' area of Newton Massachusetts is a mix of cultures. The Irish came fleeing the famine in the 1840's. The French and the Jews came escaping war and persecution. The Italians came mostly from Sicily, the village of San Donato Val di Comino. In to this unique mix came the Gypsy carnivals. The locals worked for the carnivals and picked up that language and made it their own. 'The Lake Language' is still in use today and is being passed down the generations. The fictional story contained in these pages is one theory of how this language became part of the neighborhood. Set in 1938, the carnival is in town and a hurricane is on the way. Cultures clash when Michael Flannigan falls for a beautiful Gypsy fortune teller. The body of Johnny Russo is found in Silver Lake and the police suspect someone from the carnival is involved.
