Grief as Ground

A Six-Session Journey Through Loss, Body, and Belonging

A self-paced online program with personal support — The Canoe

You were not meant to carry this alone.

And grief was never meant to be something you simply get through.

If you have lost someone you love — and you are tired of pretending you are doing better than you are, tired of a world that moved on before you were ready, tired of carrying something this heavy in private — this program was made for you.

Grief as Ground is not about getting over your loss. It is about discovering what lives inside it. The nourishment. The inheritance. The proof of how deeply and irreversibly you loved someone. Over six sessions, you will find language for what you have been carrying, learn to listen to your body as a truthful guide, and begin to carry your loss as ground beneath your feet — rather than a wound you are waiting to close.

The Six Sessions

Session 1 — The Shape of Grief We begin by naming what you are carrying and giving you permission — real permission — to feel what is actually there. Grief is not a malfunction. It is love with nowhere to go.

Session 2 — What Lives in the Body Grief lands in the body before it finds words. We learn to listen to the physical reality of loss — the exhaustion, the restlessness, the ache — and offer simple, grounded practices for tending a body that is working very hard.

Session 3 — The Many Gates of Grief Through Francis Weller's five gates, we widen the permission. The grief beneath the grief. The losses that were never named. The sorrow older than this death. This is the session that tends to surprise people most.

Session 4 — Grief as Gift The most counter-cultural session. Drawing on Martin Prechtel, Stephen Jenkinson, and Francis Weller, we discover that within grief — not after it, but inside it — there is genuine nourishment. Praise. Inheritance. The seeds the dead have left in us.

Session 5 — Grief and the Village We were never meant to grieve alone. We explore what genuine witnessing looks like, what it has cost us to carry this in private, and what becomes possible when grief is held — even by one other person.

Session 6 — Continuing On Not a graduation. A completion. We gather what has been found, write to the person we have been carrying, and begin to understand what it means to carry them forward — not as a wound, but as an ancestor.

What's Included

✦ Six rich, unhurried sessions — written for real human beings, not clinical audiences ✦ Six guided body practices — bringing the learning into the body where grief actually lives ✦ A complete participant workbook — prompts and writing space for each session, yours to keep ✦ Six weeks of email support from Paul — a death doula who will read what you send and respond as a human being ✦ An evergreen resource — return to it a year from now, or five years from now, whenever grief opens a new door

This program is for you if...

→ You have lost someone you love and the grief is still present in your life

→ You feel like you have been grieving alone — in ways the world around you doesn't quite hold

→ You sense your grief is wider and older than the single loss that brought you here

→ You want to feel it, move through it, and find out what it actually contains

→ You want real human support alongside a program you can work through at your own pace.

"This is not a program about how to get over grief. It is an invitation to go into it — and find out what lives there." — Paul, The Canoe
