Komorebi

Komorebi (koh-moh-reh-bee) is the Japanese word for dappled light filtered through trees and a perfect name for this delicate lacework design. This is a top-down, modified raglan featuring four panels of elegant eyelet lace running down the front, back and sleeves, creating a garment both striking and serene.

CONSTRUCTION

This garment is worked top down, mostly in the round. Initially, stitches for the back, sleeves and front are cast on and worked flat, before joining to form the neckhole. Four sections of lacework are established at the front, back and on each sleeve. The yoke is worked in the round, with increases shaping the sleeves and armscyes. Once armscye depth is reached, stitches are separated for body and sleeves, each of which are worked in the round and finished with ribbing. Stitches are picked up around the neckhole to work a neckband in the round.

SIZING GUIDE

This garment is graded into sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10). Recommended positive ease is 4+” / 10+ cm at the chest circumference.

SAMPLE

The wearer is 5’10” / 178 cm with a 37” / 92.5 cm chest circumference. The sample has been worked in between sizes 4 and 5, with the yoke worked as for size 5, but with 12 decreases worked at the underarms to achieve a chest circumference of 48” / 120 cm. This gives the wearer 11” / 27.5 cm of positive ease at the chest. Size 4 sleeves have been worked. To accommodate the height of the wearer, an extra 2” / 5 cm of length has been added to the body and sleeve length.

GAUGE

Using 3.5 mm / US size 4 needles, or needle size required to meet gauge, 24 stitches over 32 rounds in stockinette, wet blocked, creates a 4x4” / 10x10 cm square.

YARN

The sample has been worked using Pigment and Ply’s The Alchemy sport weight base (50% Bluefaced Leicester / 37% Suri Alpaca / 13% Cashmere; 333 m / 364 yds per 100 g) in colourway What About Your Quiet Treason.
