In this Christmas Ornament Art and Write lesson, students create Christmas bauble artwork and then write about it. They follow a tutorial to draw the ornament, then use the "Pick a Pattern" ideas to add their own designs, so each bauble is different. The art style is inspired by the Ms Artastic YouTube Channel.

After the art, students complete fiction or non-fiction writing based on their artwork, then finish with an artist statement, reflections and an exit ticket. With adaptable writing and template pages, it suits grades 1 to 5, and it works as a quick activity or a longer project with little prep.

HOW TO USE IT

Start with the warm-up drawing challenge and the About the Theme reading. Students then follow the step-by-step instructions to draw their bauble, choosing patterns from the rough draft page. Once the art is done, they plan and write using the fiction or non-fiction pages that fit their level, and wrap up with reflection pages and an exit ticket.

The writing pages come in primary and intermediate versions, plus blank pages, so you can match the writing to your age group. It is a good fit for a Christmas classroom activity that connects art and literacy.
