German chocolate cake was one of our Aunt Dede's favorite desserts to make. Growing up, dessert held a special place in all of our hearts, especially Dede’s. Her version consisted of a luscious chocolate cake, with a gooey coconut and toasted pecan filling. We felt truly lucky every time she invited us over for dinner, because we knew there would always be a slice of her latest bake waiting for us for dessert. I think of her each and every time I make this flavor. Here we have decadent salted chocolate ice cream with pieces of homemade chocolate cake, swirls of German chocolate cake filling and toasted pecans. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

PS: The recipes yield more cake and filling than you'll need for the ice cream (intentionally, because it is so good!) so feel free to get creative with the leftovers. I make mini German chocolate cakes which I keep in the freezer to enjoy whenever I get a hankering.

So good

My favorite cake now turned into an ice cream flavor? Love! So good and always so fun to have cake in ice cream. The cake and frosting recipes themselves are also pretty great, but better in ice cream.

YAS!!! You get it! Thank you, always! So happy you notes the cake is BETTER in ice cream. I tried hard to make it so the cake pieces didn’t freeze super hard. You’re awesome!
