Deconstructed German Chocolate Cake
German chocolate cake was one of our Aunt Dede's favorite desserts to make. Growing up, dessert held a special place in all of our hearts, especially Dede’s. Her version consisted of a luscious chocolate cake, with a gooey coconut and toasted pecan filling. We felt truly lucky every time she invited us over for dinner, because we knew there would always be a slice of her latest bake waiting for us for dessert. I think of her each and every time I make this flavor. Here we have decadent salted chocolate ice cream with pieces of homemade chocolate cake, swirls of German chocolate cake filling and toasted pecans. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
PS: The recipes yield more cake and filling than you'll need for the ice cream (intentionally, because it is so good!) so feel free to get creative with the leftovers. I make mini German chocolate cakes which I keep in the freezer to enjoy whenever I get a hankering.
