The Falling Files: Junior Field Manual Junior Field Manual · A DET & CW Casebook · Ages 6–9
The companion workbook to The Falling Files: drop tests, a magnet hunt, a bean that turns toward the light, paper parachutes and a week of Moon watching. For ages 6–9.
Why does everything fall down? DET drops an apple, then eleven more things, and every one goes down. So he asks a better question: what’s doing the pulling, and where is it hiding?
This Junior Field Manual follows The Falling Files chapter by chapter. Your child reads a short retelling of each chapter, then tries the same kind of investigation DET does, with things from around the house.
What’s inside (8 cases):
• The Drop Test: guess, drop and watch
• A magnet hunt and a wind watch: things you only see by what they do
• Bean Detective: a bean in a cup that turns toward the light
• The Tilt Test: how many books until it slides?
• Paper races and a homemade parachute
• Two Piles: what people agreed on, and what happens anyway
• The Moon Case: the real hammer-and-feather drop from 1971, plus a week of Moon drawings
• The Clue Board: putting the whole case together
Every case has three parts:
• The Case: a short read-aloud with a picture, three words to trace and two easy questions.
• Field Work: one real hands-on activity using things from around the house.
• My Own Case: a drawing page that turns the case toward your child’s own life. These pages are theirs to keep private.
