The 300 Club (78RPM Shellac Version)

Track 7 from The Unstoppable Ruby LaRue (Album)

The 300 Club (78RPM Shellac Version) is the seventh and final track from The Unstoppable Ruby LaRue — Episode 003 of The Rock and Roll Rewind Project.

“Playing up to and hoot hoo, like you want to loop the loop.”

Before streaming.

Before compact discs.

Before vinyl LPs.

Popular music came home on heavy, fragile shellac records, spinning at approximately 78 revolutions per minute.

For the final track of The Unstoppable Ruby LaRue, The 300 Club travels backwards through time. This version has been deliberately treated to evoke the restricted frequency range, surface noise and distinctive character of a period 78RPM shellac recording — imagining how the song might have sounded playing from a gramophone in Ruby LaRue’s own world.

It is the same performance heard earlier in the episode, but now experienced through the technology of its era — transforming a modern production into something that feels as though it has survived from another time.

The lights have gone down.

The club is closing.

But somewhere, an old record is still playing.
