Grandpa's Teeth: ESL Partner Speaking Mystery (B1–B2)
Grandpa went trick-or-treating dressed as a vampire. He came home with plastic fangs in his mouth — and without his real false teeth. Where did he leave them?
HOW IT WORKS
This is a partner speaking mystery for pairs. Student A has Maya's and Grandpa's memories of the evening, which describe houses only by how they look. Student B has the map of the street (house numbers, decorations, treats and which lights were on). Neither sheet solves the mystery alone: A has no house numbers or map, and B has no route. Students keep their sheets secret, ask and answer questions in their own words, compare what they find out and rebuild the trick-or-treat route and find the one house where Grandpa left his teeth. The answer is fixed and fully explained in the answer key.
LEVEL AND LANGUAGE
Written for English learners at CEFR B1–B2, grades 5–8. Language focus: sequence and places (first, then, after that, opposite, across the road) and deduction (He still had his teeth at …, so …).
PREP AND TIMING
Print page 2 for each Student A and page 3 for each Student B. Keep pages 1 and 4 for yourself. No cutting and no extra materials. About 25 minutes.
HALLOWEEN WITHOUT THE GORE
Spooky, funny and school-friendly: no blood, no violence, no frightening images.
