Earth humans are taken by an advanced civilization to populate another planet. The planet is coveted by other civilizations and must be defended. The planet is Vul, life there is called VUEL
In vuel, a wedding is called a briolop. There are villages on Vul where the wedding kiss is more involved. Aeia, who has become The Vuelessa of Centium learns what she and Gald must do when they decide to become casado in his home village in the Permian region of Vul.

Kregt and Eloe are scooped up by the Resjed transport spacecraft and taken to the orbiting village that is a city used by the Resjed civilization to regulate and defend vuel. They live on the orbiting village long enough to be imbued with alluvial knowledge that they can access from the lesser used areas of their minds.
