Bridget dreads spending the summer trapped in a hot, sweaty long-leg cast and would rather be left alone. Her relentlessly cheerful friend insists on cheering her up with a walk in the park. Instead, she unintentionally makes things worse—showing off bright pink toenails while reminding Bridget of the bare foot sticking out of her cast. Still awkward on crutches, Bridget struggles to keep pace, quickly tiring and bruising her underarms. Resting on a bench, her friend turns the break into games, first playing footsie and then challenging Bridget to pick up grass and rocks with their toes. Bridget briefly forgets her frustrations until the game ends and she realizes she can't bend her casted leg to clean the dirt from her exposed foot, while her friend teasingly points it out. Things go downhill from there. Her friend "decorates" Bridget's cast with permanent marker doodles she'll be stuck with for five more weeks, then talks her into climbing a wooden playground ladder to prove she can still do it in a cast. Bridget manages the climb but ends up with a splinter in her exposed toes. By the time the exhausting day finally ends, Bridget's sore underarms force her to abandon the crutches, strap on the clunky cast boot she hates, and limp up three flights of stairs to her apartment—more convinced than ever that summer in a long-leg cast is miserable.
