The World Journal of Post-Factory Photography, Issues 1-4
Long out of print, Issues 1-4 of the World Journal of Post-Factory Photography are now available for the first time as PDFs — converted directly from founder Judy Seigel's original computer files, so crystal clear, not scans. A password file comes with the download to unlock the PDF.
Between 1998 and 2004, the journal became the bible for the revival of 19th-century photographic processes—gum bichromate, cyanotype, palladium, bromoil, gold toning and all the rest. It was the first stand-alone publication in North America devoted to the "alt photo" movement, with subscribers in 33 countries who called it a "perfect combination of technicalia and artspeak." Leading practitioners contributed to and were featured in the journal, mixing rigorous technique with philosophical depth, colorful personalities and forgotten history. For her expertise as a pioneering non-silver publisher-writer, professor, artist and obsessive darkroom "process junky," Seigel was called "a legend" and "the Queen of Gum."* (See Payhip "About" and www.judyseigel.com for more.)
