This is a PDF sewing pattern to make the Cosy Cottage Sewing Case. The Cosy Cottage Sewing Case is a large sewing case, perfect for carrying your essentials and your project whilst you are on the go. Inside there are open pockets as well as a zip pocket.

Using a combination of hand sewing, English paper piecing, appliquè and machine sewing, this pattern is easy to follow and fun to make. The pouch measures approximately 8 1/4" tall and 12 1/4" wide when closed and 19 1/2" tall and 12 1/4" wide when open.

The pattern includes:

  • Full size printable templates for the pattern pieces (1 page)
  • A full instruction booklet (15 pages) with step by step instructions, photographs and diagrams
  • Printable templates for the English paper piecing and appliqué design. (3 page)

This is a digital product and the files will be emailed to you when you purchase it. When you print, ensure your printer settings are set to actual size or 100%, do not "fit to page" or "scale". You can choose from A4 or US letter size for the printable templates and pattern pieces.

To make the case, you will need:

  • 12" x 20" double sided fusible foam. I use ¼” thick foam called Legacy Flex-Foam
  • 14" x 22" felt for the inside - wool felt works best as it adheres to the fusible foam and is harder wearing than acrylic felt. You could substitute this with cotton fabric.
  • 14" x 22" cotton for the outside
  • 28 x 2" clamshells (either paper or Hexiform)
  • 10" x 6" Hexiform or paper for the door, windows and curtains
  • Fabric scraps for the clamshells and windows and door. For each clamshell you’ll need at least a 3" square piece of fabric.
  • 21mm snap fastener
  • A strip of fabric 3" x 44" for the straight binding. You could join two pieces of fabric to achieve the required length.
  • 27" of bias binding that is ¾” wide.
  • A strip of fabric 3" x 13" for the roof appliqué
  • 12 ½” x 14 ½” fabric for the large open pocket
  • 12 ½” x 12 ½” fabric for the small open pocket
  • 12 ½” x 15" fabric for the zip pocket
  • Two, 3" x 1 ½” fabric for the zip tabs
  • 10" zip
  • 35" x 13" and 15" x 13" medium weight iron on interfacing
  • Sewline glue pen
  • Hand sewing needle and thread. I use size 10 milliners needles and Wonderfil Invisafil or Deco Bob Thread
  • Scissors, pins, an iron, fabric pen and a sewing machine

I also created an add-on video workshop. You don't need this to make the pattern, but if you want a more in depth tutorial which shows you every step in detail, you can purchase it here.

There is also a full kit available here.
