WIMBO WA NDEGE (The Song of the Birds)

Wimbo Wa Ndege (Song of the Birds)

Track 4 from Cheche Kuwa Moto (From a Spark to a Fire)

Wimbo Wa Ndege (Song of the Birds) is the fourth track from Cheche Kuwa Moto - Episode 002 of The Rock and Roll Rewind Project

"Your voice, my own."

Wimbo Wa Ndege (Song of the Birds) continues the song of Cheche Kuwa Moto as the human voice begins to find inspiration in the sounds of the natural world.

As the men walk the plains and rest beneath the trees, the calls of birds surround them. The Bulbuli, Korongo mdogo and countless other voice calls travel across the landscape. They listen, imitate and answer their calls, transforming the sounds of the land into their own forms of musical expression.

Blending Swahili vocals, African-inspired rhythms and voice with authentic song and contemporary production, Wimbo Wa Ndege celebrates the birds as teachers of voice and song—the sounds of the natural world becoming part of the music of its people.

A NOTE ON CULTURE AND STORYTELLING

Cheche Kuwa Moto is an original work of musical storytelling inspired by African musical traditions, rhythms, languages and cultural influences.

The Rock and Roll Rewind Project recognises that these traditions belong to diverse peoples and cultures with histories and lived experiences far deeper than can be represented within a single musical project.

The use of African and Swahili-inspired language, musical and spiritual ideas and storytelling within Cheche Kuwa Moto is intended as an acknowledgement and celebration of those cultural influences, not as an attempt to claim ownership of them or to speak on behalf of the people and communities from which they originate.

Through original music and storytelling, The Rock and Roll Rewind Project seeks to explore, acknowledge and celebrate the extraordinary cultural influences that have contributed to the continuing story of music.
