HOW TO FINISH A MARATHON
Planning to run a MARATHON?
A marathon may seem to be a one-day event only but to successfully survive one, you need to be prepared before it.
By “successfully survive” I mean no fainting or vomiting or quitting happening on the day of the race itself.
It's not a one-day kind of commitment, it is weeks’, if not months’ worth of training and commitment for you to be equipped with the needed strength and endurance to finish one.
Marathons are short compared to the actual preparation you need to finish one.
I know you are ready but equipped with right knowledge will surely have great impact in your training and in the actual event like for example in the middle of the race you experience
SIDE STITCH (Stabbing pain below the ribs or even in the entire abdominal cavity that develops during running) although a side stitch is basically harmless, it can be quite painful.
And oftentimes we are forced to drop out of a race in the middle because of it.
What to do when you experience this.
1. Press your hand on the painful area and release the pressure while breathing out. Conscious, deep breathing helps when trying this strategy
2. Slow down or take a walking break
3. Small stretching exercises can help relieve the tension. Just lean your upper body to the side and stretch a little farther with each exhalation.
There are ways to prevent this but in case you experience this during your run these tips will help ease or take away the pain.
Finishing the race fast is good but to finish it strong without experiencing any injury is much better.
