Bossa Nova Chord Progressions | From Beginner to Advanced – Practice With Me

Welcome to Bossa & Beyond Practice Sessions — a series designed to help you develop your Brazilian guitar skills through guided, play-along practice.

In this first session, we're working with three bossa nova chord progressions in the key of C major, taking you from basic to more advanced concepts.

The goal isn't simply to learn a few chord progressions. It's to gradually develop your bossa nova rhythm, chord vocabulary, bass movement, fretboard awareness, and ability to connect different chord voicings while actually playing along.

🎸 SESSION 1 — Bossa Nova Chord Progressions

🟢 PROGRESSION 1 — BEGINNER

We'll start with a simple progression in C major using easy, first-position chord shapes and a basic bossa nova rhythm pattern.

This section is ideal if you're new to bossa nova guitar or want to establish a solid rhythmic foundation.

🟡 PROGRESSION 2 — INTERMEDIATE

We'll use another progression in C major and build on the first exercise by introducing alternate bass notes and different chord shapes.

The goal is to begin moving beyond basic chord shapes while keeping the bossa nova groove steady and relaxed.

🔴 PROGRESSION 3 — ADVANCED

For the final progression, we'll explore more sophisticated chord voicings and a different bossa nova rhythm pattern.

This section is designed to challenge your chord vocabulary, rhythmic independence, and ability to navigate the fretboard while maintaining the groove.

🎯 HOW TO USE THIS SESSION

You can approach this video in several ways:

• Start with Progression 1 and gradually work your way toward the advanced exercise.

• Choose the level that matches your current ability and repeat it until you feel comfortable.

• Practice the progressions slowly and focus on keeping the rhythm consistent.

• Return to the session regularly and see if you can eventually play all three levels comfortably.

The most important thing is the groove. Don't worry about playing fast. Focus on making the rhythm feel relaxed, steady, and musical.

Happy Practice!
