Permit - The Complete Anglervale Fishing Guide (PDF)

The ultimate flats challenge - the fish that humbles everyone, and rewards almost no one. Here is how to give yourself a real shot.

This guide is written to be useful rather than romantic. It covers how to identify a permit and tell it from its look-alikes, where and when to find them, how to read the water, what tackle and offerings actually work, and the demanding presentation that gives you a chance at an eat. It also covers handling and release honestly, because the permit is overwhelmingly a catch-and-release fish, and the way you treat one matters far more than how you cook it. If you want a fish for the table, this is not your species. If you want the hardest, most rewarding pursuit the flats can offer, read on.
