The Into the North Set was created for the Makers of Color Collective 2023 Calendar. It has contains 3 classic pieces: a headband, fingerless mittens, and a cowl. However, I always felt like it was missing a hat (I mean, you might not survive winter in the north without a hat). In honor of the independent release of the Into the North set, I have designed a classic hat to go with the original set. This way, you can choose to make hat or headband, or both!

This is an intermediate level pattern. The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms.

This is a made-to-measure pattern that includes guidance for how to calculate stitches and rows to make your perfect hat. However, I have also included what I did to make my own sample.

Dimensions:

The sample I made was 18” (45 cm) in circumference, and 10” (25 cm) tall, with a 4” (10 cm) fold over brim, making the total length 14” (35 cm)

Here’s what you’ll need:

Hook: 5 mm

Yarn: Yardage will vary based on what yarn weight you use the dimensions you choose. I used 271 yards (248 m) of Knit Pick Simply Alpaca (categorized as worsted, though I feel it is closer to DK).
