Head Shape & Torticollis: A Parent’s Guide to Early Detection and Support
Does your baby…
– Only roll one direction?
– Have a wonky or flat head shape?
– Cry excessively during tummy time?
– Seem stiff, guarded, or dislike certain movements?
– Only track toys or faces easily in one direction?
These could be early red flags of torticollis—a common condition in infants that affects neck muscles, head shape, and development.
This handout helps you:
✔️ Recognize the signs of torticollis and head shape concerns
✔️ Learn what to watch for at home
✔️ Master positioning to improve head shape
✔️ Understand how this impacts movement and milestones
✔️ Take practical steps to support your baby’s development
Whether you're unsure or already suspect something’s off, this resource gives you tools to feel confident and proactive in helping your baby.
Also included, you'll find an easy-to-follow home exercise program PDF and video to help you make improvements while you wait to discuss with your pediatrician, or to help you rule out some other issues caused by tension (ie: breastfeeding and latch, ability to participate in tummy time, or increased colic symptoms)
VIDEO: 10 minutes of demonstrated stretches to do at home that are gentle, equipment free, and come with variations and modifications to ensure your baby can tolerate stretching.
Note: these stretches can be done for ANY baby even if tension is mild, but especially benefit those with torticollis.
