Network Protocols Map — Digital Poster

Network Protocols Map

2009 Classic Edition · Revised 2026

Explore the layers and connections behind network communication—all in one map.

Organized around the seven-layer OSI model and the four-layer TCP/IP model, the Network Protocols Map brings together technologies for the Internet, LANs, WANs, wireless networking, voice communication, storage networks, and security. Its visual layout helps readers locate protocols within the network stack and understand their relationships.

Before 2010, Javvin sold tens of thousands of copies of this popular map. The 2026 revision preserves the classic structure while correcting terminology and technical descriptions, removing selected deprecated technologies, and introducing a softer color palette and a redesigned masthead.

The map features core TCP/IP technologies alongside historical protocol families such as NetWare, AppleTalk, and SNA, offering a perspective on the evolution of networking. Retained legacy technologies appear in gray. This is a revision of the classic map, rather than a comprehensive catalog of today's networking technologies.

A reference and display poster for networking students, educators, engineers, and technology history enthusiasts—suited to classrooms, study areas, and workspaces.
