The world tree needs three sisters to tend it. One of them wants a family.

Verdandi, the Norn of the present, is tired of watering roots. She walks out into Jotunheim, feasts with giants who invented clans, turns down every suitor, and comes home years later with a husband nobody approved of: Loki, the god of mischief. Their son, Nornian, is tall, serious and quietly proud. He is also very good at drawing.

Then Nornian discovers that he can walk into his drawings, finds a world by the sea, and a wife who is not at all impressed by him, and who arrives just in time for the story to begin again. Worlds hang in the branches of Yggdrasil like fruit, the gods of Asgard take notice, and a boy with two red-haired parents and a firm preference for blond hair must decide what kind of creator he wants to be.

A quiet, funny Norse fairy tale told in 206 full-colour illustrated panels over 106 pages. The humour lives in the narrator's dry asides, and there is room to breathe: misty vistas, glowing worlds, a very old dragon who would rather not be disturbed, and three sisters who are certain that the most important task in the world requires sacrifice.

Adapted from Valentin Sarić's fantasy comedy novella. Illustrations were created with AI image generation and art-directed and edited by the author.
