Kuutio blanket knitting pattern

Kuutio is a blanket with a stitch pattern that looks like cubes. The stitch pattern consists of knit and purl stitches only, so it is very simple. The cool thing about the pattern is that it looks the same on the reverse side, too! The name kuutio is the Finnish word for cube.

Yarn:
DK weight, for example ColourMart Extra Fine Merino 12/29NM (355 m/388 yds per 150 g).

Yardage:
Baby: 390 g or 920 m/1010 yds
Child: 1150 g or 2720 m/2980 yds
Adult: 1750 g or 4140 m/4530 yds

Finished sizes:
Baby: 70 cm/27 in wide, 72 cm/28 in high
Child: 98 cm/39 in wide, 154 cm/61 in high
Adult: 127 cm/50 in wide, 182 cm/72 in high

Gauge:
19 sts and 27 rows per 10 cm in stockinette stitch and 21 sts and 32 rows in the cube stitch pattern, but gauge is not crucial. However, please note that a different gauge will lead to different yarn usage.

Needles:
4 mm (US 6) or the size you need to get correct gauge, a circular needle at least 80 cm (32 in) long. 5 mm (US 8) circular for casting on and 3.5 mm (US 4) for the garter stitch sections at the beginning and end of the blanket.

Other supplies:
8 (11, 14) stitch markers, of which 2 may be different from the others. A removable marker if you want to mark the right side of the work.
