It only takes one charismatic sociopath who overpromises and lies to persuade 30-40% of the voters in a country.

That is a surprisingly large percentage of the population who let themselves be fooled because they think they will get much better and completely for free.

They only need to vote for the sociopath and the notorious liar. Of course they will be fooled. Hitler fooled 33.1% in 1932, which cost about 61 million deaths. Nazi Germany killed about 21 million people from 1933 to 1945.
